September is National Preparedness Month. Make a plan and prepare a kit to prepare you and/or your family for the unexpected. Limit the impact of disasters or emergencies on your household by practicing action plans and having a kit ready to go that includes:
Medical first aid kit
Copies of all driver’s licenses in your residence
Copies of Social Security cards
Birth certificates, adoption papers, and child custody agreements
Marriage license
Divorce decree
Passports
A list of financial accounts, like checking, savings and retirement accounts
Insurance policies
House payments
Tax statements
Proof of pet ownership, including ID tags and microchip information
Have an emergency communication plan to contact elderly parents, your children, spouse and anyone whose safety would be a concern for you during a disaster.
