Marty Betts

Marty is a Yoga Alliance 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher, as well as a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). At The Health and Fitness Center at Washtenaw Community College, she teaches multi-level yoga classes for members of all fitness levels.

Marty has been involved in the fitness community for over 30 years, and has been teaching yoga for over 12 years. She is a passionate runner, and considers both yoga and running forms of moving meditation.

In addition to yoga and fitness, Marty is professionally trained in design, photography, fine art and music. These disciplines inform her yoga teaching, and she creates specific music mixes to help empower her students and their yoga practice.

Why teach yoga?

“As a runner, I was pretty skeptical of yoga,” Marty states. “But I discovered that yoga can balance, focus and strengthen you. Many of us have become disconnected with our bodies, and yoga helps re-establish that connection between body and mind. It is a work-out…but more importantly a work-in. Just as yoga engages the body, it also helps evolve the mind. It’s a win-win.”

Marty believes that your body has an inherent intelligence to bring about a perfect state of equilibrium. This awareness translates both on and off the mat, as it can be carried into your day-to-day life. She believes it is her job is to help facilitate this 4,000-year-old practice, and she is truly honored to participate in this process!
