June is National Safety Month. As we get ready to enjoy the warmer weather, here are some safety recommendations for you and your family:
Enjoy off-peak hours
When visiting the beach or pool, considering the early morning and late afternoon hours to avoid crowds. Reduce the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke by avoiding outdoor exercise between 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Prevent dehydration
Drink plenty of water during activities in warm weather. Do not wait untill you’re thirsty. Eat fruits and vegetables with a high content of water such as watermelon, strawberries, grapefruit, peaches, eggplants and spinach.
Use Sunscreen
Protect yourself and your family by using a sunscreen with a high Sun Protection Factor (SPF). Stay in the shade during peak hours (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Barbecues
Keep your grill at least 10 feet from all structures. Ensure that children and pets maintain a safe distance from the grill. Never leave your grill unattended and keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
